Hi Everyone,
This is a reminder that the next philosophy club meeting will be held on September 24, 2019 in the Magna Room of the Aurora Public Library between 7 - 8:45 pm.
For our first meeting of the season we are privileged to have David Basskin, a well-known radio personality, come and talk about Jazz and the Cold War. Here is a brief biography and description of David's talk
David Basskin is the host of The Nightfly starting in September on JAZZ.FM91. He created and hosted Stolen Moments on the station from 2007 to 2018. David has been a musician, a lawyer and the CEO of Canada’s largest music licensing agency. He brings a lifetime of love for jazz and its unexpected history to this talk.
Cold War Jazz tells the story of what happened when US politicians showed some unexpected love for America's greatest music and musicians. Aiming to counter Soviet rhetoric decrying American racism, the State Department recruited Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Dave Brubeck and other great players to tell a more positive story -- through their music. Very little turned out as expected!
Undoubtedly, David Basskin's presentation will be both enlightening and stimulating. Hoping to see you all there.
Regards,
The Aurora Philosophy Club Steering Committee
